How to use the dice roller
Choose how many dice to roll and how many sides each die has, then press Roll. Add a modifier to the total if your game calls for it, like a +3 bonus on an attack roll. The quick buttons roll the most common combinations.
Dice notation explained
Tabletop games write dice as NdS: roll N dice with S sides. So 2d6 means two six-sided dice, and 1d20+5 means one twenty-sided die plus 5.
| Roll | Range | Average |
|---|---|---|
| 1d6 | 1–6 | 3.5 |
| 2d6 | 2–12 | 7 |
| 1d20 | 1–20 | 10.5 |
| 4d6 | 4–24 | 14 |
| 1d100 | 1–100 | 50.5 |
Why 7 is the most common roll with two dice
There are six ways to make 7 with two dice (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1) out of 36 combinations, a 1 in 6 chance. Only one way makes 2 or 12, so those come up just 1 in 36 times.
Frequently asked questions
Is this dice roller fair?
Yes. Every die uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so each face has an equal chance.
Can I use this for D&D?
Yes. It covers d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100 with modifiers. For advantage, roll 2d20 and take the higher die.
